On Sat., Oct. 3, 2015, Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series kicks-off its festival season with A Day of Activism and Inspiration showcasing a series of films in honor of the civil rights and #blacklivesmatter movements. Community partners Harlem World Magazine and  The Caribbean Film Academy are co-presenting the screenings to celebrate Harlem Advocacy Week. Families and students are welcomed! Tickets are $10 for section passes or $20 for a festival day pass.

Several notable films being screened include Millie & The Lords, a film that pays homage to the Young Lord Party (YLP) through a young woman’s journey of self-discovery; Gentle Giant, a portrait on Andre Rodgers, the first Bahamian baseball play to enter major league baseball; and The Price of Memory, a documentary on the historic effort by a group of Rastafarian leaders who petitioned Queen Elizabeth II for reparations. Special guest Felipe Luciano, co-founder of the YLP, will join Millie & The Lords director Jennica Carmona for a discussion on her film.

Dontre Conley, Harlem World Magazine editor, will host a talk on The Price of Memory.
